4th of July

This year our dear friends the Harrison's decided to come up for the 4th of July. They moved a few hours away last summer, and it was sad. But when Ashely said that she was coming up, I though, score! and told her that she was welcome to stay at our house for one or both nights. We planned on them spending the night on Wednesday night, and due to a stroke of luck (for us) the people who had planned to house them on Tuesday night could no longer do it because they needed to take in some family without power unexpectedly. So lucky us, we got the Harrisons for 2 nights! The kids enjoyed each other's company by watching tv. (And the adults watched a movie that night too.)
On Wednesday morning the Harrison's went off to an event in which they would get to see lots of their friends. We opted out of that, because even though the food is good, it's always hot and way too long. So instead we checked out the neighborhood parade, which had more participants than observers, and then went to the pool for a few hours. We had some lunch, and Grammy and Cammi joined us for a while. It was fun, and hot, hot, hot!
When we got home from swimming, the Harrison's were there, so we just hung out for a while until they left to go have dinner with some other friends.
We met up with them again for the fireworks. We have decent fireworks in our town, but it gets really crowded where they are sent off, and parking is often a nightmare. So went to the parking lot of our favorite grocery store. It was actually quite crowded there as well. We had a little time to hang out before it started. There were several friends from our old ward that were there. It was a good time. We brought glow bracelets from the dollar spot at Target. Love that place!

On top of the cars was a good place to watch from. The boys thought that this was both scary and awesome!
And here are the crazy Graham photos. #1.

This is what the fire works looked like. They were small and far away, and we could only see the higher ones.
The strangest thing of the evening? When Graham had Mike hold him for a minute. As far as I know, Graham has never had any interaction with Mike, and we have not been in their same ward for 3 months now. Hmmmm....
We came home, and everyone was pretty beat. The heat from the morning really knocked me flat. On the way home, I got all of the glow sticks, and made some fireworks of my own.
It was a fun day all in all. I'd really like to actually go to the park next year. I'll need to find some people to go with though, because fireworks with friends is always more fun. But close up fireworks are also more fun!

Come with us. We leave our house at about 8:30, get there right when they start, and then head home. It's the best.
